In a recent post French gaming site, Actugamer, stated that not only will Diablo 2 be getting the full remaster treatment, but we should see its launch within the year. According to the Actugamer, who seem to usually have their finger on Blizzard’s pulse, the remastered title will be called Diablo 2: Resurrected, and will be released at the end of 2020.
With the remastering treatment that both Star Craft and Warcraft 3 have received, it’s not at all a surprise that Blizzard would want to offer fans a look at, from this writer’s perspective, the best Diablo game made, but will it measure up to the original? The original game and its expansion are available now from Blizzard and are already pulling many nostalgic fans into hopeless addiction. Will the this Resurrected be able to tip the scales and draw in even more?
The second half of the rumor from Actugamer may shed some light on the subject, as according to the site, Vicarious Visions is going to be the wing of Activision to undertake the remaster and this is welcome news indeed. The studio has worked on numerous titles over the years, but very recently helped Bungie make Destiny 2’s PC port absolutely amazing and also worked on some content for the game previously. If this rumor is true, which it is, Vicarious Visions involvement is only a good thing.
Another question, however, is ‘why now?’ The answer, unsurprisingly, is that Blizzard seems to delight in untimely releases and also has likely got plenty of work to do on Diablo 4. Which means that they’re going to need a little something to tide some of us Diablo fans over until the next sequel is released. Diablo 2: Resurrected might just be that booster shot we need. Here’s hopin’.
