Depth of Extinction, HOF Studios’ underwater turn-based strategy game, launched today on Steam, GOG, ITCH.io and the Humble Store. Built from a love of games such as XCOM2 and FTL: Faster Than Light, Depth of Extinction includes underwater combat, squad management and strategic gameplay.
Thousands of years ago, an unknown calamity plunged civilization as we know it to the bottom of what is now a vast ocean. As the waters rose, those who survived the event formed a new society known as the “Creators” and rebuilt the human population – producing advanced technology to better suit their needs. However, as eons passed, the Creators faded from existence – leaving behind remnants of their civilization and their technology.
With the seas more uncertain than ever, mankind has split into multiple factions – including “The Republic,” who used the machines left behind by the Creators and became the most stable faction while the others favoured violence instead. However, these machines started to fail them – and the population grew wary of the future. With rumours of killer machines or worse in faraway seas, humanity’s only chance at survival is to venture out into the unknown.
Depth of Extinction’s storyline is both detailed and engaging, and unfolds through a series of random encounters. There are 8 different classes to choose from each with their own playstyle, and unique skills, and 115 different weapons, armour and items for your squad to use. All these are at your disposal and will help you ensure victory.
However, be prepared, Depth of Extinction does not go easy on you and the games permadeath mode will ensure that only the squads with the best strategies will make it through.
